7 Website Mistakes

7 Website Mistakes Life Coaches Make (And How to Avoid Them)

You became a life coach to help people — not to stress over websites. But if your website isn’t working for your business, it could be quietly costing you clients.

A great coaching website doesn’t need to be fancy or complicated. But it does need to be clear, intentional, and easy for the right people to connect with you.

Let’s look at seven common website mistakes life coaches make — and how to fix them so your site actually supports your business (instead of holding it back).

1. No Clear Call to Action

When someone visits your site, they should know exactly what to do next. Too many coaching websites lack a strong call to action (CTA), or bury it way down the page.

Fix it: Make your primary CTA obvious and consistent. Whether it’s “Book a free discovery call” or “Join my mailing list,” put it in your top navigation, at the end of every page, and in key sections throughout your site.

Your website is a journey — but it needs a destination.

2. Trying to Speak to Everyone

Generic coaching language (“I help you live your best life”) might sound safe, but it doesn’t connect with the real challenges your clients are facing. When you try to appeal to everyone, you risk connecting with no one.

Fix it: Get specific. Who do you work with? What kind of transformation do you support? Use real-world language, not coaching jargon.

For example: “I help ambitious professionals overcome impostor syndrome and lead with confidence.”

3. Outdated or DIY Design

First impressions count — and design is often the first thing people notice. A cluttered, clunky, or outdated site can make your business seem less trustworthy, even if you’re brilliant at what you do.

Fix it: Invest in a clean, modern website that reflects your brand. You don’t need bells and whistles — just clear structure, consistent fonts, and thoughtful use of whitespace. Bonus points for mobile-friendly design.

4. Hidden or Confusing Services Page

If people don’t know what you offer, they can’t buy from you. Many coaching sites hide their services behind vague menu labels or fail to explain what’s actually included.

Fix it: Create a Services page that clearly outlines:

  • Who your coaching is for
  • What’s included in each package or session
  • How much it costs (or a price range)
  • What results your clients can expect

Be transparent. Clarity builds trust.

5. No Personality or Personal Story

Coaching is personal — people want to know who you are, what you stand for, and why you do this work. A bland About page that just lists qualifications won’t cut it.

Fix it: Share your story. What brought you to coaching? What are your values? How do clients describe working with you?

Let your tone of voice shine through. People don’t buy coaching — they buy you.

6. Neglecting SEO Basics

Even the best website can’t help your business if no one finds it. Search engine optimisation (SEO) doesn’t have to be complicated — but it does need to be in place.

Fix it: Make sure your site has:

  • Keyword-rich page titles and meta descriptions
  • Clear headings (H1, H2, H3)
  • Descriptive URLs
  • Fast load times and mobile responsiveness
  • Relevant keywords throughout your content (e.g. “life coach for professionals,” “confidence coaching,” etc.)

You don’t need to chase rankings — just make it easy for the right people to find you.

7. No Social Proof

Testimonials are one of the most powerful trust-builders for coaching websites — yet so many coaches forget to include them.

Fix it: Gather short quotes or case study snapshots from past clients. Highlight specific results or experiences:

“Before working with Emma, I felt stuck in self-doubt. After six sessions, I landed a promotion and actually enjoyed the interview process!”

Place testimonials on your homepage, services page, and a dedicated Testimonials page if possible.

Final Thoughts

Your coaching website doesn’t need to be perfect. But it should be clear, credible, and client-friendly.

Avoiding these common mistakes can turn your site from an online brochure into a business-building tool that attracts the right clients, builds trust, and helps you grow with confidence.
